A Layered Birthday Card

Yesterday was a birthday heavy day.  Four family members and friends share the same birthday and as it was a bank holiday I had to be prepared in advance so that cards that needed posting arrived in time.  This one did, so I can share it today.
I started by cutting a piece of stencil card to 13.5cm x 13.5cm.  I blended Cracked Pistachio, Mermaid Lagoon and Peacock Feathers Distress Oxides over it, misted it lightly with water and dried it thoroughly.
Next, I laid one of the Clarity petite leaf stencils over the background and went back over with Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxide, moving the stencil and repeating until I was happy.
This was matted onto a piece of black card (14cm x 14cm) and onto a 6" x 6" white card blank.
For the toppers I used the Skeleton Leaf 3 Way Overlay stamp set from Clarity.  I started by stamping the outline stamp in Jet Black archival ink.
Next I used the #3 background stamp over the top in Mermaid Lagoon and Cracked Pistachio Oxide.
The remaining ink was misted with water and a second impression made.
To finish, the #2 line infill stamp was used to add Cracked Pistachio Oxide to the first image.
Once again I took a second impression using the left over ink.
I finished by re inking the stamp with Peacock Feathers Oxide and going back over the second image.
The three tiles were trimmed back and two of them matted onto black card leaving a narrow border.  The original tile had a white border left.  I added two of the tiles to the card.
The third was added overlapping the first two.
I added one of the Tim Holtz Small Talk Occasions stickers.
The finishing touch was to stamp the Happy Birthday art nouveau sentiment in Jet Black Archival ink.
I love the different effects you can get stamping in Distress Oxides.  It is surprising how far one application of ink will go with a light mist of water.

  1. Distress Oxides are a favourite of mine. I find them so easy to blend. Hope you enjoyed all the Birthdays. We always get them in a group. X
