I decided to use a different substrate than normal for this sample. I had a chipboard door hanger blank in my stash which worked perfectly with both the stamps and the stencil that I was working with.
Give both sides of the door hanger a coat of white gesso.
When dry, add a layer of neutral grey Amsterdam acrylic paint.
Lay the outer part of the Elegant Ladies 2 stencil over the tag and stamp the jigsaw outline from Sam’s Shapes 1 through the chosen aperture in Jet Black archival ink. Repeat until the whole aperture is covered. Remove the stencil outer, line the inner over the stamping and outline the shape with a black Posca pen. Colour each jigsaw piece with a different coloured Pitt Artist pen (Faber-Castell). When dry, add a second layer of colour. Cover the lady with the stencil inner, and lay Geo stencil #4 over the hanger. Pounce Versamark ink through the apertures. Remove the stencil and add Aged Wine embossing enamel: heat emboss. Repeat, moving the stencil and ensuring the patterns match up, until the door hanger is covered. Rub Gold gilding wax around the edges of the hanger. To finish, add three sentiments from the Small Talk sticker book by Tim Holtz.
I used a similar technique on an art journal page last year, but without adding the stencilled background (see HERE).
