Layers of Cogs: A Birthday Card

I used another of my water colour ombre backgrounds for this card and built up layers of cogs using stamps, dies and a stencil.
To create the ombre background, I scribbled various shades of yellow and orange Ecoline pens onto my glass mat, picked up the colour with a water brush and added overlapping stripes of colour to a piece of water colour card.  This was trimmed to 13.5cm x 13.5cm.
All the stamps used come from the Clocks and Cogs stamp set from Claritystamp.  The large clock face was stamped in Versamark ink and heat embossed in detail copper powder.  I used my stamp platform and did two layers of embossing to ensure an even finish as I was working on watercolour card.
Next, I stamped each of the cogs from the same set in Onyx Black Versafine ink and heat embossed in clear powder.
I laid part of the 7" x 7" Clockwork stencil (also from Claritystamp) over the right hand side of the background, pressed a Versamark pad through it and heat embossed in clear powder.
I blended Black Soot Distress Oxide over the stencilled area and buffed up the embossing to remove the ink.
To tie the two sections together, I added further cogs in the same way as before.  Where the heat embossed cogs overlapped the clear embossing, I touched up the embossing with a black Posca pen.
Three of the XCut cog dies were used with copper card and the cogs added using small black brads.  I matted the topper onto black card measuring 14cm x 14cm.
To finish, the piece was added to a 14.5cm x 14.5cm white card blank and a Happy Birthday die cut in black added.  I used the sentiment from the Happy Birthday Floral Frame dies for this (Claritystamp).

Lovely Sarah! I do like the cogs but haven’t used them myself. Just got the Groovi plate out and might give that a try for a card I need. X
