WOYWW #378 Crafting Companions!

Three weeks in a row - this is definitely a record joining in with WOYWW over at Julia's Stamping Ground.  Once again my crafty friend and companion has joined me for a day's crafting so I shall be showing her side of the desk as well as my own.

Pick A Stick Challenge - August

Before this week, i had never created an art journal layout; now I've made two in three days - this time in response to the August 2016 Pick a Stick Challenge.  Ten steps, which must be completed in the specified order, although additional steps can be added in between if wished.  I find this sort of art journaling very relaxing as it is a mixture of guided steps and creative challenge.

First Ever Art Journal Page

I have had an empty Art Journal for nearly a year and the pages have scared me to death.  By chance, I happened to come across the Mission Inspiration group on Facebook and liked the idea of having to follow a set of instructions to create an art journal page.  I therefore accepted August's mission and I'm really happy with my first attempt.

WOYWW #377 Crafting with a Friend is Fun!

Two weeks in a row - I don't know what's up with me.  Actually I do; when my best friend comes round to craft with me in the shed I always get more done!  So I will be sharing not only what is on my side of the workbench, but her side too.  You can head over to Julia's Stamping Ground to see what everyone else is up to!
My side of the workbench is staged as I am working on a new baby card for a colleague who recently had a beautiful baby boy; I don't want to spoil the surprise, so I have simply shown some of the materials which I will use/ have used to complete the card.  Watch this space for details once the card has been delivered.
My best friend has come to keep me company today.  She is working on her first mixed media piece, using offcuts of mount board as a base and loads of embellishments and die cuts for texture.
Once all the elements have been glued into place, she will gesso over them before adding colour.
Enjoying the process!

Gelli Scrap Birthday

It is just over a year since I started my blog and the most viewed post is the MDF book that I decorated for my twin sister's birthday a year ago today.  Today I thought I'd share the card for this year, which started life as a gelli plate clean up sheet of copy paper.  Happy birthday sis!

WOYWW #376

It seems for ever since I participated in WOYWW hosted by Julia on her Stamping Ground blog.  I am only going to tease you today about the project on my desk, as it is a birthday gift for my brother who lives in Canada.  I am working hard to get it finished before my parents fly out there next week; even though his birthday is not until the beginning of September, I want to send the gift across with them, rather than trusting the post!  The project isn't yet finished; I am waiting for the Pebeo Vitrail and Moon elements to dry before adding any more layers.  Watch this space as I will blog the details on or after the big day!

Alphabet Congratulations

My sister qualified as a GP at the beginning of this month, having previously worked for years as, firstly a nurse, then a health visitor.  This is something that she has worked massively hard at to achieve and after going back to university and long training, placements in hospitals and GP practices as well as regular study, exams and long hours, she has finally made it.  I am so proud of her.  She starts work as a partner at her new Practice next week and I made this card to wish her well.

Alcohol Ink Acetate Background

I have been meaning to try this background method for ages, ever since I saw it on Sue Wilson's blog.  However it wasn't until a friend spent the afternoon making backgrounds using the same method that I had a go myself.  As I had to make a card for my husband to give to a colleague, I thought that I'd kill two birds with one stone.

Around the World with Grunge!

Every so often I get the urge to work with a tag as a starting point and I just can't resist getting grungy!  This card started with an idea seen on a YouTube video by Kate Palmer on behalf of Lindy's Stamp Gang.  I simply replaced the products with my favourite Tim Holtz distress sprays.

Double Embossing!

I made both these cards following a wander round YouTube in response to a video that I saw by Marta Turska-Grochocka for Lindy's Stamp Gang.  I simply replaced some of the products  with Pixie Powders and Stampendous coloured metallic embossing powder in red and purple.  I finished my cards entirely differently having made the backgrounds.

Danke Schön

This card was made as a thank you to all my colleagues who accompanied or helped organise the school visit to Berlin this summer.  I was feeling really lousy when I was making them and also needed six cards, so I kept things clean and simple and themed the card for the occasion.
Each card was made from a sheet of A5 card, folded in half to create an A6 card blank.  I raided my scrap box for pieces of black, red and gold card and die cut the red and gold pieces using the Grand Danke Schön die by Memory Box.  Once trimmed to size and layered up to form the correct order for the German flag, each card was ready.  I am so grateful to my colleagues for making the trip possible.

Thanks and au revoir!

This is the last of the leavers' cards which I made this summer.  This colleague was only with us for a year on a short term contract, but she worked really hard and will be missed.  As she taught mainly maths. I used a numerical background; however she halped out with French and numerous other subjects too!

All the Best, as you 'Head' off.

Yet another leaver's card and a terrible pun.  This particular teacher is very diligent, always has everything organised and is extremely well turned out; I decided on a 'pink' theme, but it took a little experimenting to decide on the final 'topper'.
