A Mermaid Tale?

The current challenge over on Tag Tuesday is Mermaids / Merpeople. I tried some paper piecing as an alternative to colouring.  I love the mermaid tail which is part of the Dee's Friends A4 (and A5) Faith stamp set.  I started off small, testing the technique with a tag.

Cover a #8 manilla tag with book text (Romanian).
Add a light layer of white gesso and once dry, seal with matte gel medium.
Add stamping along the bottom using the tendrils of the jellyfish. Stamp multiple times in Versamark ink and heat emboss with silver embossing powder.
Add a tint to the background using a Sky Blue Indian ink pen and blend out.
Stamp the mermaid tail onto the back of a piece of Indian Summer paper in Cobalt Blue archival ink and cut out.

Add the tail to the tag and seal with matte gel medium, drying thoroughly.
Add shading with the same pens as before in Cobalt Green, Phthalo Blue and Indanthrene Blue, blending out with a Pergamano blending pen & nib.
To finish, cut out ‘You are beautiful’ from the printed sentiments, edge with Cobalt Blue ink and add them to the tag.

Summer Tag

The latest challenge over on Tag Tuesday is anything goes.  I had been hoarding a piece of gelli plate clean up paper which made the perfect background for this tag.

I added the clean up sheet to a #8 manilla tag (to view original project see HERE).  It was sealed with matte medium, dried and trimmed.
On a separate sheet of card, I stamped the sailing boat stamp from the Boating Rounds set from Clarity Crafts in Majestic Blue Versafine ink.  It was heat embossed with clear EP, then coloured in using my Royal Talens Ecoline pens.
Once fussy cut, the image was added to the tag.  I sealed the water colouring using Distress Glaze then used the Cobalt Green big brush marker (Faber-Castell) to add shading.
Before shading

After shading.
The NDC Summer stamp (#117) from Clarity was added directly onto the tag (same method as the previous stamping) and coloured in using the same big brush marker.
One of the Tim Holtz Small Talk stickers completed the piece.

Stamping Within a Stencil

I decided to use a different substrate than normal for this sample.  I had a chipboard door hanger blank in my stash which worked perfectly with both the stamps and the stencil that I was working with.

Crafty Short Cuts to a Humerous Tag

This is my third and final contribution to the May prompt over on Country View Challenges: Be Humorous.  It is also a tag, as I love to have plenty to use as bookmarks. I was in a bit of a hurry to create this one, so used some crafty shortcuts to get great results in a short amount of time.

Fourth Festive Journal Page

This is the fourth 'Festive' journal page created for week 52 of Art Journal Prompts.  As it is Christmas Eve, I felt it appropriate to create a nativity scene.  Merry Christmas to all my followers and friends around the world.

Art Journal Collage

This was one of the quickest art journal pages I have completed in a while.  The prompt for week 40 at Art Journal Prompts was Collage, and as I have a stash of magazine clippings, I started there.  Having chosen some which shared a similar colour scheme of green and grey, I found some background papers which would go with them and the rest was quick and easy.

Kitchen Towel Background

I needed a quick project for today's post, so I decided to follow the advice of another crafter that I greatly admire and who blogs every day; 'Go with what you've got and don't think it has to be perfect.'  So thanks, Barbara Gray, I love how this tag turned out and I still have the top layer of the paper towel to work with.

June Mini Mission: Cake

This is my June mini mission for the Mission Inspiration group.  As usual I have ended up completing the mini mission before the main mission and have worked on a #8 Maniila tag.  This prompt was easy to complete (can't think why LOL).  I am also entering it in the Tag Tuesday fortnightly challenge.

Journal52 #2: Hope, Catching Up

Once again, I stepped out of my comfort zone to attempt an art journal page with Journal52 using only a one word prompt; Hope.  I am still a week behind, but catching up rapidly.  I really had no idea where I was going with this page at the start, just that I was going to use a mop up page from my journal.  By the end though, I was extremely pleased with the result; the quotes say it all!

Pick A Stick Challenge - August

Before this week, i had never created an art journal layout; now I've made two in three days - this time in response to the August 2016 Pick a Stick Challenge.  Ten steps, which must be completed in the specified order, although additional steps can be added in between if wished.  I find this sort of art journaling very relaxing as it is a mixture of guided steps and creative challenge.
