June Mini Mission: Cake

This is my June mini mission for the Mission Inspiration group.  As usual I have ended up completing the mini mission before the main mission and have worked on a #8 Maniila tag.  This prompt was easy to complete (can't think why LOL).  I am also entering it in the Tag Tuesday fortnightly challenge.

I started with the cup cake stamp from the Blueprint Birthday set designed by Tim Holtz for Stampers Anonymous.  It was stamped three times onto Sheena's stamping card using Watering Can Archival ink rather than Jet Black, as I wanted a softer image.
Once all the cakes (only one with the candle) had been fussy cut, I arranged them on the tag to get an idea of the best layout.
The tag was given a coat of white gesso and, once dry, was painted all over with Barn Door distress paint.  The stamped images were then glued into place and sealed with distress collage medium to ensure a non-porous surface.  I nearly forgot to take a photo before I coloured them.
I used my Faber-Castell Big Brush markers and Pitt Artist pens, both to colour the images, and round the outside to add a shadow (using Cold Grey IV down the left hand side and Cold Grey III down the right).  I blended the colours out with my fingers and cotton buds.
The final step was to add the quote 'Cake is for life, not just for birthdays.' using my Dymo Letratag.
