Art Journal Prompts Week 24: Graffiti/Grunge/Urban

Just as I caught up with the back log from earlier in the year, I fell behind with the more recent prompts.  This is for week 24 on Art Journal Prompts: Graffiti/Grunge/Urban and I have another page to complete before Sunday to be completely up to date.  As you can see, I took the prompt literally.

First step: Create the wall background.  I cut a piece of Mixed Media card to 19.5cm x 18.5cm (to fit in my kraft card journal) and coated it with a layer of Vintage Photo Distress Oxide.  I then used a stencil brush to dab a mixture of Umber, Flesh and Titanium White Reeves Acrylic paint through the 8" x 8" Another Brick stencil by Sheena Douglass.  Once the paint was dry, I spritzed the card with water to create a mottled effect on the Distress Oxide ink and kept drying and respraying until I was happy with the effect.
Second Step: Add some Graffiti.  I bought the Graffiti Area and Greatness Word stamps by Bee Crafty at Telford at the weekend with this page in mind.  They were both stamped using a Versamark ink pad, but the Graffiti Area stamp was heat embossed using Cosmic Shimmer True White detail embossing powder and the Greatness Words used Stampendous detail black powder.
I needed to add some graffiti in Manganese Blue Archival ink as I had used the same colour for one of the Spray Can images.  For this I chose the Stand Out stamp from the Teenage Kicks set by Visible Image and  one of the drips from the Drag & Drip set.  I had stamped the Spray Can (also by Bee Crafty) onto an off cut of the Mixed Media card using Jet Black and Manganese Blue archival inks.  These were fussy cut and Permapaque silver pen was added to the top of each can.
The final step was to glue the cans in place and trim the excess.  I really love this page and it gave me a good excuse to add to my stamp collection!
