A Third Birthday Card

Yet another use of my ombre backgrounds, this time for a child's birthday card.  The daughter of friends was three yesterday and this is the card that I made for her.
The ombre background was created by scribbling shades of green Ecoline pens onto a glass mat, picking up the colours with a water brush and adding stripes of colour to heavy duty watercolour card.  It was trimmed to 13.5cm x 13.5cm and matted onto a piece of black card (14cm x 14cm).

For the focal point, I stamped the cupcake stamp (Clarity NDC #142) three times onto a piece of stencil card, masking as needed.  These were fussy cut, removing the stalks from the cherry on the top of each cupcake.
The cupcakes were coloured using water colour pencils and the colours blended with a water brush.
They were added to the background, masked off and a shadow added in Hickory Smoke archival ink.

I used the Happy Birthday die from the Floral Frame set to cut a sentiment out of pink ombre card (created in the same way as the background but using shades of pink and purple).
A second sentiment was cut from black card, the two matted up and added to the background.
I added the recipient's name using the Word Chain Alphabet from Claritystamp.  The letters were stamped in Versamark ink and heat embossed using Rose Quartz embossing powder.
To finish, I simply added the whole piece to a 14.5cm x 14.5cm white card blank.

What a great card, I love the word chain alphabet. Do you think they will bring out a mini one to match the mini word chain words as sometimes I want to add to the words to personalise the sentiment.
