This page was created especially for my weekly art journal, following prompts over on Nina Ribena's Art Journal Prompts and More. September's prompt is Art Journal Frenzy and the sub prompt for week 5 was Texture/White space.
I worked on a piece of mixed media card (18.5cm x 19.5cm) and started by stamping several stamps from the Rugged Edge set from IndigoBlu, in different colours of grey/black Archival ink.
Next, I added areas of texture by scraping Amsterdam white modelling paste through the Tracks mini layering stencil from Tim Holtz (THMS044) in several places.
Once dry, I emphasized the texture by using watercolours from my small (12) Sakura pocket field sketch box (Prussian Blue and Ivory Black), adding plenty of water to encourage drippage. I also added splatters in the same colours. Some additional stamping was added, by painting Prussian Blue onto a textured mat and pressing it onto the page in areas.
Next, I rubbed some silver Pebeo gilding wax over the dry modelling paste and blended some Weathered Wood Distress ink around the edges of the page, using a soft brush in a circular motion around the corners for very subtle colour.
To finish, one of the Tim Holtz quote chips was coloured using the same watercolours and added to the page.
I really must leave areas of white space more often as I love the way that this turned out.
