I decided to make a more masculine journal cover using the Wrapped Journal Bigz die designed by Eileen Hull for Sizzix. I have made one before (see HERE and HERE) but it was more feminine in appeal. Today I am sharing the inside on which I built up a cool wood effect.
I had die cut the journal cover from a piece of sturdy packaging. This was given a couple of coats of Pebeo white gesso.
Using three shades of brown (#403, #409 and #411) Amsterdam acrylic paint. I added each of the colours in different areas and blended the paint out with my fingers. To add detail, I used the Tim Holtz Wood Grain layering stencil (THS023) and blended Acorn Archival ink through it. I didn't attempt to join up the stencilling, and applied more ink in some areas than others to create an uneven effect. Finally, I went back round the edges of the cover, blending more of the Acorn Archival ink. Again, I was deliberately more heavy handed in some areas than others. I am so pleased with this effect. I have deliberately not added any extra texture as this will be the inside of the journal. For the outside I am intending to add for more texture and embellishments. Pop back tomorrow if you are interested in the finished cover.
