Art Journal Prompts 37: The Sea

When the prompt for week 37 of Art Journal Prompts came up - The Sea - I was pleased to have an excuse to really play with my Distress Oxides.
I worked on mixed media card (18.5cm x 19.5cm) as I was going to be adding lots of water.   I added Salty Ocean, Faded Jeans and Broken China Distress Oxides to a blending mat, spritzed them liberally with water and dragged the card through them.  I then spritzed the card with water and allowed the colours to run before drying with a heat gun.  This step was repeated several times, although on the third occasion I didn't allow the colours to run.  On the final occasion I added Cracked Pistachio and Peacock Feathers to the blending mat with a round foam tool, before spritzing with water and laying the card face down onto it.

The prompt word 'Sea' was added using the Claritystamp Word Chain Alphabet; stamped in Versamark ink and heat embossed with Bright White detail embossing powder by Cosmic Shimmer.
Next, I used a natural sponge to add watered down Titanium White Reeves acrylic paint over the page and a fan brush to add spatters of white to mimic foam and spray.
Faded Jeans Distress Oxide was added all round the edges to darken them and the rest of the quote 'I want to be wild, beautiful and free, just like the' was printed out in a medium font using my Dymo Letratag, trimmed and added to the page.  A simple, layered design.
