Birthday Card for Husband: Using a Master Board Background Technique

The festivities start a day early in our household as it is my husband's birthday today.  This is the card which I made him this year.
I started by die cutting the Make A Wish Aperture Fresh Cut die from Claritystamp out of a piece of heavy black card stock.  The 4.75" x 4.75" square picot edge die was used to create a frame.
For the background, I cut a piece of stamping card to 16.8cm x 16.8cm and blended Shabby Shutters/ Bundled Sage Distress Oxides all over it.
Next I dabbed Twisted Citron all over the background with a piece of sponge.
Using two of the leaves from the Fossil Leaves Petite Stencils,  I blended Bundled Sage over the first in a few places, then Peeled Paint over the second.
To finish,  I stamped the sprig stamp from the Gone Fishing stamp set (Claritystamp) in Mowed Lawn Oxide.
Using black die based ink, I stamped Husband using the Word Chain Alphabet, Happy from Mini Word Chains 13 & 14 and Birthday from Mini Word Chains 3 & 4.  Where the letters / words were stamped over the sprigs it acted as a slight resist and I had to go over the stamping with a black Pitt Artist pen (Faber-Castell).
The die cut panel was added using foam tape for dimension.
The finished panel was matted onto a piece of black paper (17.3cm x 17.3cm) and added to a 7" x 7" pre-made card blank.
