The final monthly prompt over on Nina Ribena's Art Journal Prompts and More is Festive. Week 1 was decorations. As I am sticking to art journaling for each prompt, I decided to create a page showing a close up of a Christmas tree.
I started by stamping the Wired Heart from Claritystamp three times in Versamark ink onto a piece of mixed media card (18.5cm x 19.5cm) and heat embossed them with detail gold EP.
I then created masks for the stamps using one of the blank mask sheets from Clarity and a post it note. By stamping the image onto the post it note and adding the mask material over the top, you can cut two masks at the same time and the stamp dowsn't slip on the mask material. Thanks for the tip Barbara!
I blended Evergreen Bough Distress Oxide all over the page, gave a light mist with water and allowed the page to dry. Using the Pine Needle A5 stencil from Claritystamp, I blended Pine Needles Distress Oxide through it. I moved the stencil across and added some more needles in the same ink. I repeated this process using Forest Moss Distress Oxide. Then added Lucky Clover. The masks were then removed. I coloured in the hearts using Spectrum Noir Sparkle pens: Rudolph's Nose with a little Mulled Wine. Using a large needle and gold twine, I pierced the page and added the twine so that the decorations had something to hang by. The twine was held on the back with sticky tape. As you can see, I managed to smudge the red pen. I added gold embossing to the edge of one of the Tim Holtz Christmas Quote Chips using Versamark ink and gold EP and added it to cover up the mistake. Two of the gold on white metallic Holiday stickers finished the page. It wasn't until I came to add the page to my journal, that I realised I had been working with the card sideways on. I wasn't starting again, so the journal will just have to be turned on its side to view the page lol.
