The July prompt over on Nina Ribena's Art Journal Prompts and More is 'Puzzled'. The final week's sub category is 'Wild Card'; I chose to use a board game that I enjoy as my inspiration for this page. For some reason my family doesn't enjoy playing this with me; if they do, I have to be a single player and play against teams of relatives lol. Just because I like collecting trivia and have a good memory...
As usual I worked on a piece of mixed media card (19.5cm x 18.5cm) ready to add into my 8" x 8" wire bound journal. I started by sticking down a piece of the Tim Holtz Melange Tissue Wrap which seemed to fit various categories of the Trivial Pursuit game.
I added a piece of map (Geography), some book text (Art & Literature) and some of the 7Gypsies Numero tissue as well as skeleton leaves (Science & Nature). Finally, I added an image from an old library book of my favourite queen (History) and some pictures from an old Oatcake; the fanzine of the team that I support (Stoke City) to represent Sport & Leisure. The completed background was given a wash of watered down white gesso. I created a winning Trivial Pursuit piece by dividing an ATCoin into 6 using a fine, black Posca pen and colouring the segments in the colours representing the question categories using my Royal Talens Ecoline pens. Before I added the piece to the background, I gave it the page a wash of Blue Violet Amsterdam Acrylic. To make a border, I blended Black Soot Archival ink through a section of the Chevron mixed media stencil from Imagination Crafts. As I was intending to add a quote printed on white paper, I added splatters of Titanium White Amsterdam Acrylic and wrote the names of the quiz categories round the edges of the page using a fine, white Posca pen. I also added white highlights to the game piece. Finally, the quote that I had planned the page around was printed in a medium font using my Dymo Letratag; added to the page and given a border using a black Posca pen. I must admit that I don't like to lose, so this is a great quote to remind me that winning isn't everything.
