Festive Art Journal Page

This page was created for week 49 of Art Journal Prompts.  The theme for the whole of December is 'Festive' and I decided to start with a Christmas themed page, although any festival can be used.
To create the 'close up Christmas tree' background I mixed some Grass Green Reeves acrylic paint with a little black and gave a piece of mixed media card (18.5cm x 19.5cm) two coats.
Grass Green paint was then applied with a natural sponge and an old gift card used to add random texture.  This was dried and the same method repeated to add depth.
I made three 'ornaments' to go on the tree.  The first was die cut using the second largest of the 2012 Spellbinders Heirloom Ornament dies and given a couple of coats of Candied Apple Distress paint.
Versamark ink was added through the Holiday Knit mini layering stencil by Tim Holtz (THMS028) and heat embossed using Wow Gold Pearl superfine embossing powder.  The top of the ornament was then heat embossed using Heat it Up Gold embossing powder.
The second largest Heirloom Ornament die from 2010 was die cut and given a couple of coats of Pebeo Dyna acrylic paint in Iridescent Precious Gold.
It was then stamped with the Holiday Type background stamp (Tim Holtz) in Vermilion Archival ink.  The bow from the Spellbinders Build a Wreath die set was given a couple of coats of Candied Apple paint and some Golden Light gilding wax rubbed over it once dry.  This was attached at the top.
The third ornament was stamped using one of the free stamps which came with the Simply Cards and Papercrafts magazine some time ago.  It matches the 2011 heirloom ornaments shape.  It was stamped in Versamark, heat embossed using the same Wow EP as before and trimmed round.  A sentiment from the set was added in Vermilion Archival ink and Ecoline pens in Scarlet and Yellow Ochre used to colour in the background.
The separate top was stamped, heat embossed and coloured in the same way, trimmed and added to the top of the ornament.
The three ornaments were then added to the background with space left to add the 'oh Christmas tree' sentiment from the Tim Holtz Christmas Quote Chips set.
As well as the sentiment, the page was finished with some highlights using Faber Castell Big Brush markers on the bottom left ornament and gold string was also added using an American Crafts Metallic Gold pen.
