Art Journal Assemblage: Flight of Imagination

When I saw the prompt 'Assemblage' for week 45 of Art Journal Prompts 2017 and having watched Nina's video showing how she created her page, I decided to have a look through my 3D and die cut stash to see if I had anything that I could use.  Of course I found far too much to use on one page and therefore spent quite a lot of time deciding on the final layout as you will see.  I am pleased with my finished look and will use the canvas paper as a base for other art journal pages I am sure.
I came across an unopened pack of printable canvas paper that I had bought when it was being sold off in Aldi quite some time ago.  I decided to see how it would take being sprayed with colour and cut a piece to 18.5cm x 19.5cm to go in my 8" x 8" art journal.  I built up layers of Cosmic Shimmer Mica Mist in Ancient Copper and Lava Red and the paper held up beautifully.  It retained the texture really well through the layers of colour and did not buckle too badly considering how wet it became.
I knew that I also wanted to add some Hessian (Sara Davies Autumn Morning Signature Collection), as well as some of the butterflies (Tim Holtz Flutterby stamp set and coordinating Sizzix dies) that I had previously coloured with Ecoline pens.  I also found a set of the pipes that I had stamped, die cut, and coloured with Distress Oxides and  gilding wax (Sheena Douglass Time Traveller Collection).  As I also had some swirls (Crafts Too) in my stash die cut from kraft card, I tried out a layout with the swirls as water bursting out of the pipes.
I glued the hessian down with Super Thick Slap it On from IndigoBlu and left it to dry, having trimmed along the edges.
In the meantime, I came across some left over strips of background which had been used to create a patchwork background on a card (see HERE for details).  I decided to create a loose weave with the strips to echo the hessian below and added them with Cosmic Shimmer Acrylic glue.
Once I added the butterflies, I didn't feel that the pipes fitted, but came across a collection of left over shells and a star fish that had been stamped and die cut (Marianne / Spellbinders) from kraft card and grunge paper.  I used one of the swirls as a tendril of sea weed.
Several more of the swirls were used behind one of the decorative frames from the Californian Collection by Sue Wilson, die cut from kraft card and which were in my left over die cut stash.  There was also a white card panel cut with the matching Basic Frames set in my stash, and I added a phrase using words from the Chit Chat sticker book by Tim Holtz; 'may your imagination take flight'.  I also die cut the sign from the Dig for Victory set by Sheena Douglass out of kraft card to add to the shells at the bottom of the page.  'Be amazed' comes from the Small Talk sticker set (Tim Holtz).
In the end, I decided to add a couple more butterflies to the page as you can see in the finished piece.
