Batch Making Bauble Cards

Having watched Barbara Gray demonstrating this technique with the two way overlay bauble sets at the NEC recently, I decided to try it out and batch make some Christmas cards.

Trim three pieces of Clarity stencil card to 6.5" x 6.5".  Stamp each of the outline baubles in Onyx Black Versafine ink onto the card and allow to dry.

Ink up each of the corresponding backgrounds using Distress Oxides and foam blending tools.  For Joy to the World I used a combination of Festive Berries, Fossilized Amber, Peeled Paint and Chipped Sapphire, for the other two I used Salty Ocean, Tumbled Glass, Chipped Sapphire, Shaded Lilac and Wilted Violet.  Stamp the images onto copy paper.

Add a little more of the same Oxides to each stamp, gently stamp onto copy paper to take off the excess, spritz lightly with water and add the background to each outline.

Mask off each bauble and blend Forest Moss ink through the Pine Needle stencil to the left hand side..

Clean and dry the stencil, reverse it and add Peeled Paint Oxide down the right hand side.

Remove the masks, clean them and replace them.  Gently brush Shabby Shutters Distress ink over the whole background using a Clarity stencil brush.

Remove the masks.  Add a 'thread' from the top of each bauble to the top edge of the background using a medium micron pen.  Add shading round each bauble using a 6B sketching pencil blended out with a Pergamano blending pen and nib.

Add Season's Greetings (mini word chains 13 & 14) in the same black ink as before in the lower right corner.

To finish, mat each piece onto black card leaving a narrow border and add to a 7" x 7" white card blank.

Great cards but would the backgrounds work using Distress Inks instead of Distress Oxide ones. I have a lot of Distress inks which I would like to use before starting to buy the Oxide ones. Thank you for sharing the techniques though.

Margaret I don't think that Distress inks would work as well as the Oxides as they are translucent and don't have the same properties therefore. You can try, but the effect will be very different.
