Follow Your HeArt: A Journal Page with a Patchwork Background

It is quite a while since I joined in with Nina Ribena's Art Journal Prompts and More.  In fact I am still catching up with February's pages and prompts.  The global prompt for February was 'Follow Your Heart' and this page is one that uses up some scraps.  I can never bear to throw away any of my scraps of Clarity designer papers, so decided to create a patchwork background using small pieces of paper left over from other projects.
I worked on a piece of mixed media card measuring 18.5cm x 19.5cm.  The scraps of designer paper were glued on using Distress Collage medium.
Next, I pounced black paint through the Hand Hearts Tree stencil from Claritystamp (New Design Stencil Club #20).
I went round each stencilled shape with a black Posca pen to emphasize the edges (spot the heart that I missed at first).
Next I built up the sentiment 'Follow Your HeArt' using three different stamp sets, stamping in Versamark ink and heat embossing with detail black EP.  Art is from Word Chain Set 1.
I finished off the word heArt using letters from the Word Chain Alphabet.
The final stamp actually says 'Follow Your Dreams' (New Design Club back issue #106).  I simply masked off the word dreams when inking the stamp.
I added a tiny bird to the sentiment and a cat at the bottom of the tree in the same manner.  The cat is from the Birdhouse Garden stamp set (on offer on the Clarity website throughout March 2019).
To finish, I went along the bottom using a couple of stamps from the Wee Grasses stamp set using a black dye based ink.  I chose not to emboss this.
I love the patchwork effect and especially how I didn't waste any of the beautiful papers that were used to create the background.

What a great way to use up those scraps we all hate to throw away. I have loads, not all Clarity but still throw them in a box for future use.Problem is I have several boxes !!! Thanks for sharing your picture.
