Creating a Background using Strips of Paper, Masks and Gesso

This is the last of my pages following February's prompts on Nina Ribena's Art Journal Prompts and More.  The prompt for February was Follow Your Heart and this is for week 4: Use Your Scraps.
I worked on mixed media card cut to 18.5cm x 19.5cm.  I chose four of the mop up sheets/gel prints from my stash and cut them into strips about 2cm wide.  I then glued them diagonally across the card until it was covered.
I knocked the intensity of colour back with a wash of white gesso, using a paper towel to remove some of the gesso while it was still wet.
I then masked areas of the background off using all the heart masks from Leonie's Heart Board Mask (Claritystamp) as well as the jagged heart which comes with the Clarity American Love stencil.
Once Pebeo black gesso had been pounced all over the page using a blending tool and the page was dry, the masks/stencil were removed.
I went round the edges with a black Posca pen to add definition.
I had a piece of the napkin left over from creating the calendar page which I shared yesterday.
I added the quote in the top right hand corner, but had to go over the lettering with a white gel pen as it didn't show up well against the background.
The quote translates as, "Happiness is the only thing which doubles in size when it is shared."  I felt it was appropriate given the theme for February.

what a brilliant way of using up those scraps of paper we all seem to save as we don't like throwing anything away.
