I have started collecting my drink packaging since attending a class with Maria Moorhouse. We turned packaging into embellishments using Sizzix Bigz dies. I have taken things one step further and used the dies that I have with matching embossing folders, for extra texture. All these embellishments were created from one box!
I started by cutting up the box and using my e-bosser to cut out two sets of butterflies (Sizzix / Tim Holtz Butterfly Duo) and one set of Tattered Leaves (also Sizzix / Tim Holtz). Next, I used the matching embossing folders to add texture. The third step was to use black gesso to paint both sides of each die cut embellishment. I added a different colour of Creative expressions Gilding Wax to each die cut; the one that I used is shown next to each piece.
Finally I added touches of a second colour to each piece for highlights.
I may add wire antennae to the butterflies before using them. The embellishments are really robust and the wings of the butterflies hold their positions when lifted.
