This is a project I did for the last Royal Talens show with Lou Withers. It was made in honour of her Facebook group Junk Journals and Mindful Mixed Media Art; hence the initials JJAMMMA. We are a very friendly bunch and are just about to celebrate 5000 members with a well sponsored mega challenge, so feel free to join us.
I started by painting a 5" x 7" canvas board with Amsterdam black gesso. Once dry, I glued the initials from the grungeboard alphas / swirls pack by Tim Holtz directly onto the canvas using Cosmic Shimmer acrylic glue. I went over the whole thing again with black gesso. Using a rainbow of colours from the Van Gogh oil pastels (Royal Talens set of 60), I went over each letter and the heart in a different colour. Finally, I used my fingers to add the Amsterdam Pewter acrylic paint as a highlight over each letter to emphasize the swirls, and also around the edge of the canvas. A little goes a loooong way!
