Canvas using Clear Gesso with Embossing Powder Resist

Quite a while ago, I decided to have a go at creating a canvas with a difference and experiment with using clear gesso with embossing powder.  I used the very first Clarity New Design Stencil club offering but the technique would work with a variety of their A5 stencils.

Working with Alcohol Inks on Acrylic

This piece was the last one that I made for the recent mixed media Clarity shows on Hochanda with Louise Withers.  I used a larger acrylic square as I was feeling more confident working on the substrate, having already created three samples.

Experiment with Distress Oxide Sprays and Distress Archival Inks on a Tag

I often use a tag to try out new products and techniques.  As one of the prompts on this month's challenge over on Tag It Tuesday is 'Use Spray Inks', I decided to try out a couple of the new Distress Oxide sprays.  Each month there are four prompts and at least two have to be used.  The additional prompts this month were 'Put a leaf on it', 'Draw, paint or write using your non dominant hand' and 'Green'.  I used all four prompts.

HeArty Canvas Using Pebeo Fantasy Paints

This is a canvas which I made with one of Leonie's new frameless stencils (Arty Hearts).  I built up texture using modelling creme and also played with some of the Pebeo Fantasy paints over the mixed media board hearts.

Inspired by Orr Ambrose: An Art Journal Page

The prompt for October over on Nina Ribena's Art Journal Prompts and More is 'Inspired By'.  Each week there is a choice of three artists; this week it was Klimt, Kandinsky and Orr Ambrose.  Having previously tried an art journal page inspired by Klimt (which I wasn't overly happy with: see HERE), I decided to base my page on the works of Orr Ambrose.

Adding Glass Slides to a Canvas

I recently played around with alcohol inks on microscope slides (see HERE).  Several people suggested using wire wrapping as a way of adding them to a piece of work.  I decided to use an 8" x 8" canvas board from Claritystamp.  I have never done any wire wrapping before, so I made things up and experimented as I went along.

Golden Hi Flow Acrylics on a Canvas

This is a piece that I made for the Golden shows with Louise Withers today on Hochanda.  I decided to see how my Hi Flow acrylics would work with a brayer on a canvas board.

A Wedding Gift

This is a wedding gift that I made recently.
For the top panel, I started by colouring some of the Ecoline brush pens directly onto three of the Journaling stamps from Claritystamp and stamping them onto a piece of rice paper, slightly larger than my canvas board.  This was then glued in one piece onto the board using matte gel medium and sealed over the top in the same medium. The gel medium caused the colours to run very slightly, but this just added to the interest of the background.
Black Amsterdam acrylic paint was used through the Love Tree stencil by Claritystamp (NDSC Back Order 20) and dried with a heat tool.
Once clean and dry, the stencil was slightly off set and Amsterdam white acrylic paint was dabbed through.  This had the effect of allowing the stamped background to show through which I wasn't expecting, but love nevertheless.
The word 'Love' from Word Chain 6 (Claritystamp) was stamped in Versamark ink and heat embossed in True White detail embossing powder.  A black micron pen added a drop shadow to match the tree.
Finally, one of the Quote Chips by Tim Holtz was given a black edge using an Ecoline pen and added at the bottom.
For the bottom panel, I used the same method as before to stamp onto rice paper.
This was adhered to an 8" x 8" canvas board from Claritystamp using matte gel medium in the same way as the top panel.  As you can see, I decided to turn the rice paper 90 degrees first.
Before the top panel was added using double sided adhesive sheets, I went all round the edges using a black pen.

A Field of Poppies: Canvas

The first of my samples for the One Day Special later today on Hochanda with Lou Withers, when she brings you all things Royal Talens.  The photo doesn't really do the piece justice, as the red poppy has an enamel look finish.

Ecoline pens on Rice Paper and Canvas

I was so proud to have this canvas shown on Hochanda yesterday during the one day special shows with Lou Withers.  I am sharing a step by step as it was such an easy technique with such a vibrant result.

Bubble Tag: As seen on TV!

This was a last minute make for the Royal Talens shows last week and was actually shown in close up on TV to demonstrate how the white acrylic pen can be used to add highlights.

Love Hand Tree Canvas

This is another of my DT pieces for the Royal Talens shows on Hochanda on the 2nd/3rd January 2018.  Once again, I decided to work on Chinese rice paper and add it to a small canvas board.

Rice Paper Canvas

For my fourth DT project using Royal Talens products, I decided to have a go at creating a canvas with a difference and experiment with using clear gesso with embossing powder.  This is a contrast to the vibrant colours of the previous three days' projects.

Green-Eyed Monster

I am not feeling well today, hence the late blog post (for me).  I went straight to bed last night instead of creating and preparing today's blog post.  Instead, I made this quick tag this morning with left overs from yesterday's journal page (see HERE).  I am entering it in the That's Crafty fortnightly challenge: Green with envy.

Stamping - Collage - Green

This page was created in response to the second Explore your Creativity challenge on Junk Journal Junkies and Mindful Art.  The colour had to be predominantly green and stamping and collage had to be part of the process.  I had fun working within these constraints and the quote chips used as the finishing touch describe both the process, and the lack of planning that went into this page.  As the colour is green, I am also entering this into the fortnightly That's Crafty Challenge 'Green with Envy'.
