Multicoloured Backround using Masking and a Stencil

It is possible to make a far more complex card with the same leafy swirls stamps and stencil than I shared in Sunday's clean and simple card post (link HERE).  I decided to try using masking behind a stencil to produce a multicoloured background.
I started by masking off the edges of a piece of 7” x 7” stencil card and covered the middle with strips of masking tape in different widths.  The Leafy swirls stencil was attached to the left hand side creating a hinge.

I brushed Ocean Reef Artistry ink through the open section.
The left hand piece of masking tape was removed and used to cover the previous inking.  This time I brushed Wild Bilberry Artistry ink through the aperture.
The next section was brushed with Indian Jamun Artistry ink.
Followed by Fancy Fuchsia.  Unfortunately as you can see, the wide masking tape was particularly sticky and lifted part of the surface of the stencil card.  I was able to disguise that as you will see later.
The final section was brushed over with Lush Lilac.

I was very careful when removing the remaining masking tape.
I stamped the  butterfly from the Leafy Swirls stamp set and Thank You So Very Much from Mini Word Chain set 17&18 using Memories Dye based black ink.
The butterfly was stamped again onto another piece of stencil card, fussy cut and used to cover the stamped area on the background (helping to disguise the fault).
To neaten the area at the top of the panel I created a frame using the Nested Square Picot Dies (Outermost and third from outside).  This was stamped using the smaller of the Leafy Swirl stamps.

Once the frame had been added to the background, I replaced the outermost nested picot die and die cut again.

To finish, the whole piece was added to a 7" x 7" black card blank.
I probably wouldn't have bothered with the frame if I hadn't damaged the background when lifting the masking tape.  Next time I try this technique, I will work with less sticky tape!
Clean and simple using the same stamps and stencil.

Even low tack tape can still be a problem. Butterflies are very useful. Hope you get through all your projects this week. X

You ended up with a striking card even if you had a happy accident in getting there! I like the CAS one too! xxx

I love the effect of the black & white frame & butterfly against the coloured background. If you hadn't of said we wouldn't have known. I think this stamp set is going to fall into my basket, I have the stencil but a 2nd one won't hurt will it !!
