I am rather behind on my art journal pages for Nina Ribena's Art Journal Prompts and More. This is the first one I have completed for February's prompt 'Follow Your Heart'. The first week of the month, as always, is based on a mood board.
This is the mood board for February. As you can see, I was influenced by the heart shape created by the flamingos, the dictionary text and the colours of the paint. I didn't refer to the bike photo at all.
I started by adding some of the Terminology tissue wrap from Tim Holtz (sadly discontinued) onto a piece of mixed media card (18.5cm x 19.5cm). As it wasn't quite big enough, I added some text from a German/English dictionary too. I had a paper napkin with balloon hearts on it. which matched the colour scheme really well, and added a piece of the top layer. It was sealed with matte medium, dried and trimmed. I love how the text can still be seen through the napkin. I masked off a small area of the A5 hearts stencil from Claritystamp and blended DecoArt Calypso Blue paint through the apertures with a foam blending tool.
I also wanted to add a further heart balloon. The Clarity Wired Heart was stamped in Versamark ink, then heat embossed using clear embossing powder. Magenta Bombay ink was then painted all over the image to make it appear. For the next step I used one of the Clarity clouds masks and added white gesso to the top of the page. Next I added some highlights using a white Posca pen. An additional string for the balloons was required and I went over the other two to emphasize them too. I also added three sentiments from the Small Talk sticker book (Tim Holtz idea-ology) and edged them in blue to match the small hearts. The quote chip relates the theme for this month. It was coloured using Faber Castell Big Brush markers to tone in with the page. Finally I decided to go back over the highlighting with a white Sakura gelli roll pen. This included the heat embossed stamping on the wired heart balloon. I hope to get round to week 2 'Junk It Up' and week 3 'Calendar Page' soon.
