This tag was created for the February Mini Mission over on Mission Inspiration. The prompt is 'Key' and as always I completed it on a #8 manilla tag. As I've also used a quote, I am entering it into the current challenge on Tag Tuesday too.
I started by working on a large grungeboard key from a set bought at a show. It was given a coat of black gesso and dried.
As I wanted to create an old, textured, rusty feel, I gave the key a rough coat of Pebeo black texture gel. Once dry, I dabbed on some Amsterdam metallic pewter acrylic paint. I finished with some touches of the Phthalo Green and the Quinacridone/Nickel Azo Gold Golden Hi Flow paints. The background was created by brushing Gouache paints in shades of browns, ochre, yellow orange and red across a #8 manilla tag. Once dry, the Pine stamp from the Birch & Pine set (Tim Holtz/Stamper's Anonymous) was stamped over the whole background in Sepia Archival ink. As I felt this was a little too uniform, I blended Vintage Photo Distress Oxide down the left hand side of the tag; spritzed with water and dried thoroughly. The key was then added to the tag. I added the prompt ('key') using the Word Chain Alphabet by Claritystamp in Versamark ink, heat embossing with detail black embossing ink. The remainder of the quote that I had chosen was printed out onto clear plastic using my Dymo Letratag and added to the tag.
