The prompt for challenge 38 on Junk Journal Junkies and Mindful Art was Water using the colours orange, purple and blue. I was a little flummoxed at first, then I found the quote and the rest came quickly.
I decided to be good and play with one of my new Dylusions paints (Periwinkle Blue) so it was natural to use three other colours of the same paints; After Midnight, Crushed Grape and Squeezed Orange. I chose two shades of blue for extra depth. To start I simply dragged all four colours using the edges of four different blending tools roughly across a piece of mixed media card measuring 18.5cm x 19.5cm. I also added a 'setting sun' in the orange.
The next step was to add texture and additional detail to the water; for this I used a natural sponge (After Midnight). I then used palette knives and the edge of a credit card to drag further colour (sticking to the same four shades) over the water and the sky until I was happy with the effect. I think that I over worked the sky and should have left well enough alone, but I was happy with the results with the water.
The quote 'The sky broke like an egg into full sunset and the water caught fire' was deliberately printed in gradually increasing font sizes as I wanted the layout to reflect the idea of sunset over water. The prompt 'water' was also intentionally printed all in upper case for emphasis.
