Happy 18th Birthday Son!

I don't know where the time has gone, but our youngest son is 18 today!  I made this card for him, complete with personalised badge ordered from the Clevercut website some time ago for this special occasion.

I was inspired by a card designed by Emma Trenouth which I found on Pinterest, but put my own twist on the idea.  I started by cutting five of the largest of the Pierced Flags dies (designed by Sue Wilson for Creative Expressions) from five pieces of autumnal coloured card from my scrap box.  I also cut 'James' from each colour using the Memory Box Contour Typewriter Keys dies.  Once I had decided on the order of colours, I glued the appropriate coloured letter onto each flag.
As I was working on a pre made 20cm x 20cm cream base card, I cut a piece of textured brown card to 19.5cm x 19.5cm and added the flags along the top edge, raising each one by 1cm at a time and trimming them level at the top once they had been glued into place.
I then used the large double ended fish tailed flag dies from the Stitched Flags set by Sue Wilson to die cut a cream mat and a kraft card top layer for the sentiment.  The Clear Stamp Alpha Bold stamps which I bought from Hobbycraft some time ago were used to stamp the sentiment 'Maturing since 1999' in Sepia Archival ink.
It only remained to put some foam pads on the back of the badge and add it to the card.
The original inspiration
