Bon Voyage

This card is to wish my nephew a safe trip, as he is off to Canada today, to train and then work as a ski instructor.  We hope he has a fabulous time, but also that he doesn't forget to at least send the occasional postcard!

In keeping with the theme of travel, I die cut the Tonic studios travellers luggage dies from white card, glued the two layers together and then sealed the surface with Distress Collage medium to provide a non-porous surface.  Once dry, it makes the perfect surface for colouring and blending with Faber-Castell Big Brush markers.  I laid down a bottom layer using various shades of warm grey, then added colour over the top to give the suitcases a worn, well-travelled appearance.
For the main background, I cut a piece of Sheena's stamping card to 13.8cm x 13.8cm and stamped the world map from the Far and Away stamp set by Teresa Collins all over the background using Onyx Black Versafine ink.
Once matted onto a piece of 14.3cm x 14.3cm black card ready to go onto a 14.8cm x 14.8cm white card, it really pops.
I the meantime, I had die cut the two smallest Stitched Flags by Sue Wilson from white and red card and stamped the 'Bon Voyage' sentiment onto the smaller white flag (Hunkydory Bon Voyage stamp set and Onyx Black Versafine ink).  I also die cut the smallest square from the Noble Square set A by Sue Wilson out of white card and the next size up from set B out of red card.  The sentiment about travel is the reason why I bought the Hunkydory stamp set in the first place.  Once matted up, I added them to the topper, covering up areas of imperfect stamping in the background and trimmed the end of the flag level with the edge of the black mat.  Several pieces of ephemera from the Tim Holtz pack were also added.
Finally the luggage was stuck into place using foam pads for added dimension.
