Art Journal Prompts Week 6: Believe

I decided to go back and catch up with one of the few art journal prompts that I didn't complete when they first came out.  I didn't discover this weekly challenge until week 10 and have three more to catch up on, while keeping up with the new prompts.  The prompt was 'believe' and I immediately thought of some lines from one of my favourite ABBA songs (I have a Dream).

I worked directly into my kraft card square journal, so started by giving the page a coat of white gesso.  Once dry I added Distress paint in two of my favourite colours for a background; Tumbled Glass and Broken China and blended them out with my fingers.  Some of the white gesso still shows through in places, giving the impression of the sky.

To add some texture, I then stamped all over the page with the script stamp from the Simply Angelic set designed by Andy Skinner for Personal Impressions.  I don't know if these are now available in a cling format as many of his designs now are; I have the original acrylic stamps. I used Aquamarine Archival ink and was careful to make the joins as unobtrusive as possible.
The large angel from the Sassy Angel DL stamp set (sadly no longer available) was stamped and heat embossed onto a piece of Sheena's stamping card; Black Onyx Versafine ink and clear embossing powder.  It was painted using mica watercolours from both the Yasutomo Mica Palette (gold and purple) and also from the Chic and Frosted set 9 Iridescent Shimmering watercolour paint palette by Cosmic Shimmer (Frosted Blossom, Frosted Mink and Chic Magenta).  Once dry, I fussy cut round the image, glued it to the page with Cosmic Shimmer acrylic glue and sealed all round the outside edge of the image with Distress Collage medium.  I did this as I wanted to use a Big Brush Marker to go around the outside of the focal point to blend it with the background and these pens only blend on a non-porous surface.  Once dry I used a Cobalt Green Big Brush marker round the edge, blending the colour out with my fingers.
The first line of the lyrics which I was using was stamped using the Claritystamp Word Chain Alphabet using Versamark ink and heat embossed in Detail Black and Metallic Purple embossing powder.  I went round the outside of the letters in the word 'angel' and 'believe' in a Gold Sakura gelli roll pen.
Finally, I hand wrote the next line using a magenta metallic gelli roll pen by Sakura.  It's getting harder to believe this at times nowadays; although the work of the emergency services and the way people have stood together in the face of the attacks in London and Manchester recently, show that good can come from the darkest events.
