WOYWW 640: Shed Makeover Part 2

Welcome to the first WOYWW of the 2021-22 school year.  Please pop over to Stamping Ground where Julia will explain more about this weekly sharing of the desks.

I azm still keeping up with the daily drawings but my diary is now more prominent as I plan daily tasks for work and crafting.
As you can see, the shed has a lovely new shingle roof to replace the old felt and giant tarpaulins that were keeping me dry before.  #1 and #2 sons came over with a friend on Sunday and the five of us (including hubby and I) spent 8 hours getting everything sorted.
Hubby and I had already spent a couple of days clearing between the fence and the side of the shed, as it wasn't possible to get all the way round before.
The first job was to remove the fancy ends of the roof, the tarpaulins and the old felt.  On inspection the roof was in good shape and there was only one small section of board which needed replacing on the far side which was a relatively quick job using a left over section of the flooring.  The two lower ends were painted with a sealant first.
Here you can see the start of the work.  #1 son and I were busy peeling the backs off the shingle strips to help with bonding to the roof.  Hubby was on nail passing duty, #2 son is on the roof and their friend (who also helped with the floor) on top of the ladder.
#1 son (now fully recovered from Covid thank goodness) took his turn on the roof too.  The last of the ridge shingles went into place at 8pm as we were losing the light.  I feel so much better about the roof now.  #3 son and I will be getting the painting done and it will be like having a new shed!  We do have to replace a strip of wood along the bottom of the fence side of the shed though as it is a little worse for wear there.

Thanks for all gthe great comments about the inside of the shed and the new floor.  I passed them on to 'the boys'.  I am in Stoke on Trent so if any of you are ever coming up this way please get intouch and you are welcome to join me for an afternoon in the shed.

Off to school for my first proper day on timetable teaching followed by a tutor session for #2 son who is learning German.  I'll be round to visit when I can.  Stay safe and happy WOYWW.

Now that's a good idea, German lessons whilst at the next crop. I really am hopeless with languages and i envy your ability with them.
Lovely to see the shed being completely renovated like this - I look forward to seeing the end result.

What a job! Well done you. You can craft in safety knowing the rain can't get in and spoil that lovely workspace. xx Jo

Your shed is coming on brilliantly, Sarah. I am so glad the whole family has rallied round to make it all ship-shape for you in time for the winter. It's such a great space and you must be thrilled with the make-over. If I'd been well enough to travel, and not uncertain about the start of my treatment, I'd have been in your neck of the woods last weekend as there was a family burial of ashes near Uttoxeter. It' a lovely part of the world and at one time we had a lot of family there.

Thank you for visiting my blog - so glad you enjoyed the DVD project. I am keen to do more as the results were impressive. Thank you for your good wishes for my radiotherapy. A friend who went through it a few years ago said it was a "walk in the park" compared with chemo, which is reassuring, but the after-effects won't be too pleasant by all accounts. Still, we have to plug on!

Happy WOYWW,

That was a long and successful day, well done all round, blimey. Don’t the shingles look great. Also, I remember Paul being tall, but did I notice quite how tall?? Believe me, if I ever get to SoT, I will be booking a couple of hours in your shed, not to craft, but to browse and absorb all the storage ideas!

Well, your shed is coming a long fine. Last year in lock down I painted my old crafty shed, now hubby's man-cave in Urban Slate. Over the years it's been many colours and seen new bits added, but surprisingly its lasting well, you'll be really pleased to get in there and have fun!! Keep on Crafting! Happy WOYWW ((Lyn)) #24

What a super shed and great to have all that "man" power to help. My son could do with German lessons, he's currently visiting his German on-line girlfriend in Kirchen - aww. Got 2 fans full blast in my room this evening but still HOT. Happy to say Hubby's eyes and my teeth are OK. Hope school was Ok today.

Thanks for your visit yesterday. I’m sorry to say I was head down sewing all day so I didn’t manage one visit so I’m getting round my favourites before I get back in my sewing room this morning.
The shed is really looking good now...what a great team.

you must be so thrilled every time you see the progress you all are making on your retreat Sarah. my first thought when I seen your family working in the first shot was, oh my you must be much shorter than your husband as it looks like he would have to duck to make it through the doorway and be bent over inside. What color is it going to be? if you've told us I forgot but, for some reason I keep thinking blue. ~Stacy #28

How I wish to travel to GB and visit you (and a lot of other deskers) - it would be so nice to spend an afternoon creating and chatting under that roof. Great job by the way! Have a lovely weekend sweetie, hug from Holland. Marit #2

Oh, I wish I was as organized as you when it comes to everything artistic! But no matter how much I plan, there will always be something else instead. :)

That little shed will be a perfect haunt for creating.

Have a nice weekend!

Wow that is a nice big shed isn't it. So glad you got the roof fixed, I've been doing something similar with my small shed which was leaking badly. So sorry, RL got in the way, and I am terribly late. Happy belated WOYWW! Elle #13, EOTC
