One Sketch Two Cards

If you can't think of a card idea, then a sketch is a good place to kick start your creativity.  Maria Moorhouse made this observation at a recent workshop, where we used some sketches by Dawn Griffith as a starting point for play.  I have linked to Dawn's page of sketch archives as they are a marvellous resource.  Maria gave the OK to share what I did with one of the sketches, so thanks for that. 

I don't have step by step photos to show as the cards were completed at a workshop.  The first one uses two stamps from the Clarity New Design Club (#114 and #131). Both cards are on a 6" x 6" card base with a piece of black card 5" x 5" and a white panel 4.75" x 4.75".  I used the fourth and fifth smallest nested oval picot dies for the topper and the black strip measures 0.75" x 5".  It is possible to cut the toppers for two cards from one piece of A4 white and one piece of A4 black card.  The green man was stamped in Smokey Grey Versafine ink and heat embossed with clear powder, then coloured using water colour pencils.  The dandelion clock stamp was added in Olympia Green and Spanish Moss Versafine inks.

I have been a member of the Clarity New Design Stamp Club for over five years and will shortly renewing my membership along with the stencil and die clubs (The Groovi Club is also available). 

As you can see, the second card, although of exactly the same dimensions as the first, looks entirely different.  The base card was stamped using the large Mixed Impressions Spots and Dots Grunge stamp in Wild Bilberry Artistry ink.  The top of the white panel and oval topper were lightly brushed with the same ink.  The single goose was stamped, embossed and coloured in the same way as the green man, but this time decoupaged to fit over the oval topper.  The flowers, stamped in Onyx Black Versafine ink, are from the Mixed Media Journal set.

The two cards that I have shared are based on Dawn's Card Sketch #13, except, as you can see, we worked on a square background at Maria's workshop and I used slightly smaller ovals.
