This page was created as a response to the January 2018 Challenge on Mission Inspiration. The choice of words was 'genesis', 'renew', 'wish', 'resolve' and 'memories'; as you can see, I decided on 'wish'.
The challenge format has not changed for 2018. As well as a choice of five prompt words, there are three suggested colours (in this case aqua, olive and blush) and eight steps to follow in order. I cut a piece of mixed media card to fit my Pink Pig art journal (28.5cm x 19.5cm)
Step 1: Glue square/rectangular pieces of card or paper. I used offcuts of mixed media card for this and trimmed them to random sizes. They were glued on with matte gel medium, overlapping in places.
Step 2: Add white or tinted gesso. For this step I mixed some of the iridescent green/blue Pebeo Dyna acrylic with white gesso (the closest I had to Aqua) and brushed a thin layer all over the page.
Step 3: Make marks with a brush or comb. I used a coarse brush to catch all the edges of the page and each block with Olive Green Nuvo acrylic paint.
Step 4: Add blocks of journaling. I am determined to try hand journaling more often this year, so wrote my artistic intentions for 2018 onto several of the blocks using a 05 black micron pen (Sakura). One was later covered up by the focal point and became hidden journaling.
Step 5: Draw through a stencil in black or white. I used the same Sakura pen to add stars in three places using a Tim Holtz mini layering stencil (THMS008).
Step 6: Add a focal image or images. For this I trimmed one of the cards from my Angel Deck (which I bought for altering) to 10cm x 10cm. I chose this image as two of the suggested colours (olive and blush) are present in the picture.
Step 7: Add shredded book/music text. I went through an old German-English bilingual dictionary choosing words which reflected the prompts as well as my artistic intentions for 2018.
Step 8: Add typography, quote or phrase. I found the sentiment 'Wish it; dream it; do it...' which fits my intentions and the prompts perfectly. Wish was stamped in Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide using the Claritystamp Word Chain Alphabet and then heat embossed in detail clear powder. The rest of the quote was printed onto clear plastic using the Dymo Letratag, trimmed and stuck on.
I decided to colour all the stars using Blush pearl paint by Docrafts. Once dry, I replaced the stencil and went back over the outside of each star with the black micron pen. The remaining paint was watered down and added as spatter to help balance up the page.
