Journal52 Week 12: Balance

The first thing that came to mind when I saw this prompt for Journal52 was Work / Life Balance and the second was the Yin-Yang symbol; I decided to combine both.

As most of the page was going to be in black and white in keeping with the Yin-Yang symbol, I wanted a bright background.  I happened to have a lovely green mop up sheet available, so I glued it down using Distress Collage Medium, sealed over the top and trimmed round the edges once I had dried it with a heat gun.

In the meantime, I used the largest circle die from the Double Pierced circle set by Sue Wilson and the smallest circle die from the Tonic Studios nesting dies and cut one each from black and white card.  I used a larger circle from the Tonic set to draw the shape of the Yin-Yang symbol onto the black card, cut it out and glued it over the large, white circle.  I then added the smaller circles into the appropriate places.  This was glued in place in the centre of the page.

The next step was to add the word prompt 'balance', both above and below the Yin-Yang symbol.  I used my favourite alphabet - the Word Chain Alphabet - by Claritystamp and stamped and heat embossed the letters using Versamark ink and detail black embossing powder.  I used the same alphabet and technique to add the word 'work' onto the white section of the Yin-Yang symbol and the word 'life' onto the black section; this time using detail white embossing powder.  I don't usually add handwritten journaling onto my pages, as I'm not very neat.  I decided to make an effort and wrote a list relating to each heading on the appropriate section, using my white Uniball Signo Broad pen on the 'life' section and my black Sakura micron pen on the 'work' section.  I wrote in a continuous line, spiralling towards the centre of each section.
