I am still catching up with the prompts for 2017 from the Art Journal Prompts Facebook group. I have been trying to complete one of the prompts that I missed as well as the new prompt each week. I now have only five 'back prompts' to go! This page relates to the 'Life is' prompt from week 4.
As I had left a border round the opposite page in my 8" x 8" kraft card album, I only applied a layer of white gesso to the centre of this page too. Once it was dry, I added Tea Dye Distress paint and Terra Cotta Adirondack acrylic paint to the page and blended them together with my fingers. I finished off by dabbing over the entire page with a damp baby wipe.
I then used Sepia Archival ink and two of the stamps from the Tempting Textures stamp set (designed by Andy Skinner) to add texture over the whole page. I held the stamps in my hand for this process.
I had already die cut all the Packages and Bows from Sheena's stamping card, using the Sizzix Alterations die of the same name (designed by Tim Holtz). They were added to the right hand side of the page using distress collage medium and sealed over; I wanted to use my Faber-Castell Big Brush Markers to colour them and they require a non-porous surface for blending out.
Before colouring the packages, I added the sentiment 'Life is' using the Word Chain Alphabet by Claritystamp. It was stamped with Versamark ink and heat embossed using Copper Tinsel embossing powder from Stampendous. Unfortunately the words didn't really stand out against the background, so I went round each letter with my Sakura black micron pen. The packages were then coloured with my Big Brush markers in Permanent Green Olive/Chrome Oxide Green, Permanent Carmine/Pink Carmine and Phthalo Blue/Indanthrene Blue. I added a touch of Caput Mortuum under the bottom package to provide a shadow and went round the whole stack with Sanguine. I made sure that I blended out each colour with my fingers before it dried.
It only remained to add the rest of the quote, 'a series of gifts, just waiting to be unwrapped' using my Dymo Letratag to print out the words. The quote is one I made up.
