Gouache Wash Background

This card was made for the fabulous Louise Withers whose birthday it is today.  I want to show that Gouache paints are not just for mixed media but can also be used successfully in card making and especially for creating wood effect backgrounds.

I created a wash of Gouache all over a piece of watercolour card ranging from reds (orange) and yellow, through ochre and deep brown.  This piece of card was used both as a background and for die cutting to create the floral embellishments.
A piece 14.3cm x 14.3cm was cut from the large card.  One of the Sizzix Mixed Media dies (Tim Holtz set 1) was used on a piece of Sheena's stamping card measuring 13.8cm x 13.8cm.  This was matted onto the Gouache coloured background allowing the beautiful colours both to show through and frame the topper.
The Birthday Wishes stamp, from the Woodware Salutations set, was stamped onto another piece of the white card in Sepia Archival ink and matted onto an off cut of the coloured background.
Three of the Wildflower dies were used with the remaining coloured pieces.  One was added to the front of the card with the sentiment topper (on foam pads) completing the clean and simple design.
The two remaining die cut flowers were added to the inside of the card (14.8cm x 14.8cm) and the No Matter sentiment by Claritystamp was added in Sepia archival ink.
