The mid month challenge over on Clarity Crafts Mini Makes and ATCs is Technique - either an old one or a new one. I was reminded of the salt on watercolour technique by a background that my sister-in law had created and that I used for my February journal page (see HERE) and decided to have a play for myself.
I started by trimming a piece of Clarity watercolour card to 3.5" x 3.5". This was spritzed with water and then watercolour paints added with a watercolour brush pen. I then used a grinder to add coarse sea salt all over the background.
I was impatient, so used a heat gun to dry the paint and card before gently rubbing away the salt granules. This left a lovely texture to the paint.
I then added a couple of houses from the Large Folk Art stamp set in Jet Black Archival ink.
Next, I added further houses from the Mega Build a Landscape Folk Art set in the same ink.
This was followed by the two sizes of bushes from the Hill Top Treescape stamp set in Olive Archival ink, as well as the tops of some of the trees from the same set in a like manner.
Several of the trees from the smaller Folk Art stamps were added in both colours of Archival inks.
I finished the scene with the flock of sheep, adding the fleeces with a white Posca pen.
Best Wishes was added in Jet Black Archival ink using a sentiment from the Large Folk Art stamp set.
To finish, the topper was edged with a black Sharpie pen and added to the front of a 4" x 4" white card blank.
