WOYWW 843/63: Learning to Relax

Welcome to the weekly sharing of desks which is WOYWW (What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday?), the brainchild of Julia, who kindly entrusted it to me to continue after the first 15 years of togetherness.  Please feel free to link up your desk and visit others' - we are a friendly bunch.

My desk this week shows my latest purchase - an early birthday present to myself.  Last year I bought used descant and treble wooden recorders which are fabulous but I have been contemplating getting this tenor recorder for some time.  It is a Mollenhauer Denner Comfort Knick (bent) tenor recorder in cherry wood.  I am gradually playing it in for no more than 20 minutes a day for the first fortnight so it will be ready for my next recorder group session.  I effortlessly plays up to top D and has a lovely tone.

As you can see, I am back on track with my #dailyart2025, although I still have some of the gaps to go back and fill in.  I have been trying to do at least a couple of drawings each day.  I am starting to get the hang of this retirement business.

I have been 'enjoying' the Euro 2025 Women's Football with Eva if you can call it that.  We watched the quarter finals and semi finals together but I only managed to watch the second half of the final and extra time, as I was over at Mum's for a family meal when it started.  I couldn't bear to watch the penalty shoot out, so tuned in later for the result.  An amazing team effort!!!

I hope the cooler weather is a bit better for everyone.  Just need a little less rain now lol.

Stay safe and Happy WOYWW.

I don't know a thing about recorders but I do recognise that this is "the business". It looks beautiful. You seem very happy with it, good idea to buy yourself this for your birthday and 'happy birthday' when the time comes,
Yes, the ladies did us proud and I think it must have been wonderful to celebrate with them yesterday in London.

Happy WOYWW.

Wow, that's a lovely recorder, glad you were able to treat yourself. Had no idea that they needed to be 'played in'. Isn't the Cherry a lovely timber. I love that you're relaxing into retirement...by September you'll be as busy as ever without having to go to work!

The recorder looks fabulous and great to see the drawings up to date, love the owl. Well that's the most I've heard of the football it's not my thing at all. We still need rain down here in the south but the cooler temperatures are certainly great for me. So glad you are learning to relax. Hugs BJ#8

Wow what a beautiful musical instrument - the cherry wood looks stunning - a beautiful treat for your birthday. Great to see you have caught up with your daily art and that you haven't given up :) Does this mean your shoulder is feeling much better too? Love the rainbow coloured CND logo!!! P xx

Hello Sarah, love your new recorder. It's a beauty. It's years since I played but today I've been remembering just how awful the school orchestra made the instrument sound during practice. Good to see your catching up and that you're getting used to the 'retirement business'. I discovered when I retired that there's a lot of truth in the old adage, 'how did I ever find time to work'! Oh, and like you, I can't bear to watch penalty shoot outs! The agony of it!!! Have a wonderful week. Elizabeth x #14

Love that you're back to sketches again. I had to giggle at the chaos. Looks way too neat for my desk. LOL
You'll get the hang of this retirement thing, I promise. Soon you'll not understand how you ever worked full time. You'll be so busy.

Such a gorgeous recorder! Sounds like you will have a lot of fun with it! Good for you for keeping up with your drawings. The one that catches my eye today is the Heavy Metal, since we just lost Ozzy😢. Keep on enjoying retirement! Have a wonderful week, Lindart #16

I love your new recorder and it looks like it would have a lovely tone. Does the bend make it easier to reach the far away holes? That was always my problem with my tenor I sent you. Your dedication to your daily watercolour is impressive.
I enjoyed seeing the penalty shootout, especially the last England one.
Enjoy your retirement ,
Happy WOYWW
