The fortnightly prompt which came out on Tag Tuesday on my birthday had me reflecting. Back to School has two meanings for me; the return to work after the summer break and thinking back to my own school days many years ago which were very happy. I decided to go with nostalgia, as you can see from the tag...
As usual I worked on a #8 manilla tag and started with a mop up sheet from some gelli printing using the large Claritystamp Dotty Wave stencil. The sheet was glued to the tag, then dried and trimmed.
Next I had a look through my themed embellishments and stickers box and came up with quite a few that were relevant to my school days. All except the first one that I used, as I walked to school rather than taking a bus (not that it would have been yellow in the UK). It is one of those stickers that shows movement as you tilt it (the bus runs along the road) and was just the right length for the width of the tag. I found a piece of grunge paper that had been die cut using the Joycrafts banner die and gave it a coat of Adirondack Gold Paint. Once dry, I wrote 'Class of '83' on it using a fine liner pen to reflect the year that I left school. I also chose a 3D blackboard embellishment to go with those times and a mini red tie, as that was part of my school uniform. These were arranged in a cluster at the top of the tag.
I found a couple of pencil stickers which were too long for the width of the tag and arranged them above and below the bus sticker at the bottom. I didn't want to throw the ends away, so added them on the opposite side of the tag each time. I was a relatively good student, so added an apple sticker; the two Tim Holtz Clippings Stickers reflect my thoughts about my own school days and the process of making the tag.
