I am still busy catching up with the monthly missions from Mission Inspiration. This page was created in response to the July prompts (my 4th page in 4 days), so I have nearly caught up. Once again, I happened to drop upon the perfect image in a Sunday supplement magazine which fitted the colour scheme and one of the word prompts. As usual, there were 8 steps, 3 suggested colours and 5 prompt words.
Step 1: Brayer one/all colours (Magenta, Cyan, Yellow) onto your page. I chose to use cyan (or Salty Ocean Distress Oxide) for this step and added it all over the page with my Speedball brayer.
Step 2: Collage napkin pieces over. I don't have any suitable patterned napkins, so my choice was either to add Tissue Wrap or to use a paper towel which had been used as a mop up sheet for a previous project. Before adding the paper towel, I rubbed Distress Micro Glaze all over the page to prevent the Pebeo Matte Gel that I was using to adhere the pieces of paper towel causing the Distress Oxide to run. It did prevent most of the colour moving. I pulled the layers of tissue apart and added them over the entire page with the join towards the right and the second sheet laid as a mirror image to the first. Once dry, I sealed the whole page with another coat of Pebeo matte gel.
Step 3: Add texture with household objects. For this I used Lemon Zest Dylusions paint together with a round washing up sponge and then the edge of my old football season card to create a sun effect in the background.
Step 4: Drip or spray ink/colour of your choice. For this step I dripped some of the 'Topaze' Izink pigment ink along the bottom of the page and spritzed it with water to create drips. The mica in the ink creates a really sparkly finish.
Step 5: Add a focal image of your choice. This was where the image from the magazine came in; a Magenta tinged photo from a film advert of a couple gazing into each other's eyes. I had fussy cut round the entire image and added it using a Ranger Collage stick. Unfortunately I was a little over enthusiastic and tore the man's neck a little, but you can't really see the join unless you look very carefully. You can see why I placed the sun as I did in the background.
Step 6: Add splatters using an eye dropper or a pipette. For this step I chose one of the Aqua Tints (#53) in as close a colour to Magenta as I could find, and shook small amounts over the left hand side of the page using a pipette. I'm not as happy with this step as I don't feel that the colour ties in with the others very well, but I like the effect of the splatters.
Step 7: Doodle around the edges. I would have preferred to leave this step out, but I haven't missed one on a Mission yet, so I went with the flow. I used large Marvy metallics markers in pink and blue, first adding scribbly lines all round the page, then going back over to create more of a block effect.
Step 8: Finish with all or some of the words (Fun, Relax, Play, Love, Sun). For obvious reasons I went with 'Love' and 'Sun', stamping the words with lemon Zest Dylusions paint and the Claritystamp Word Chain alphabet. I made sure that the stamps were put straight into water before going back over each letter with a detail brush and the same paint to intensify the colour.
