I must admit that my heart sank when I first saw the colour combination and theme for this week's challenge from Junk Journals Junkies and Mindful Art. I hadn't a clue what I was going to do and vaguely had a thought about 'Purple Rain'. It wasn't until I had completed the first two steps that I decided on the song to picture on my page and now I absolutely love what came out of it. Thanks for taking me out of my comfort zone.
I decided to make the background orange and use purple and maroon as focal colours on top (still thinking Purple Rain at this point). The first step was to lay down Squeezed Orange Dylusions paint all over the background with a small round blending tool.
I then added stamped elements from the Mixed Media and Slight Alterations stamp sets (designed by Tim Holtz for Stamper's Anonymous) and also from the Drips & Dirt set (The Art of Brett Weldele) to create some texture and interest. For this step I used Venetian Orange and Monarch Orange Archival inks. It was at this point that I thought of the Katy Perry song 'Firework' and my Pyrotechnics stamp set by The Ton. The perfect match. I added every size of firework stamp (4 in total) multiple times using Majestic Violet and Plum Archival ink (Plum being the closest colour to maroon that I had). I also added one or two in Monarch Orange to fill in gaps. I absolutely loved the effect. It only remained to stamp 'firework' and 'colours' using the Claritystamp Word Chain Alphabet in Versamark ink and heat emboss the words with Bright White detail embossing powder by Cosmic Shimmer. The remaining words of the song quote were printed out using my Dymo Letratag in the large font.
