A Pendant: Experimenting on Acrylic

I really enjoyed playing with some of the new acrylic shapes from Claritystamp.  Watch out for Lou Withers at 6pm and 8pm today and tomorrow at 9am, 1pm and 5pm on Hochanda as she shows you what else can be done with this fantastic form of  substrate.  I started by working with one of the smallest shapes to see how they work with different media.
To start with I removed the protective covering from the small acrylic square with a drilled hole. I laid the Skeleton Leaf tile stencil over the square and blended Fern Green Archival ink through the apertures.

Next I dragged Pentart Heavy Body Matte Gel through the apertures over the ink and removed the stencil (which went straight into water and was thoroughly cleaned).
I sprinkled very fine green glitter over the gel medium, tapped off the excess and allowed it to dry thoroughly.
Once dry, I added a layer of Sunshine Yellow Alcohol ink over the back of the acrylic square.
When that was dry I also added a little Honeycomb alcohol ink over the top and blended it with a felt tool.
To finish, I added thin ribbon in coordinating colours through the hole drilled in the acrylic square to make a  pendant.

This wasn't my first attempt.  When I first started working with the acrylic square, I decided to see how heat embossing would work and stamped the #1 outline stamp from the Skeleton leaf set onto the acrylic using Onyx Black Versafine ink and clear embossing powder.  This worked fine.
Next, I added some Pebeo Vitrail paint in gold through the stencil.
Followed by some Chartreuse paint.
Unfortunately, the Vitrail paints caused the heat embossed outline to lift off the acrylic.  Luckily, I was able to wipe all the paint away and clean the acrylic square with hand sanitiser.  I used the same acrylic square to make the pendant, so don't be afraid to experiment, the acrylic shapes will take quite a lot of punishment.

Thanks for showing us what not to do. Your second attempt is great. Lots of new things there for me to try. x

Wow, I have put the shows on to record but wasn't sure what it was all about but now you have shown us it looks exciting. I wonder if you could use alcohol markers to add the colour instead of the inks !! We shall have to watch & see what Lou does.

I'm going to be watching at 6pm as this is all new to me. Like your pendant and it's good to know the shapes can be cleaned in case of oops moments. Xx
