Journal52 #4: Listen

I am really starting to enjoy working with a one word prompt.  For this page I went with a quote from the Tim Holtz idea-ology Small Talk sticker book; 'Listen to your heart, it will show you the way.'  It seems to sum up my new approach towards art journaling.  All the stencils and stamps that I have used are by Claritystamp, so I am entering this into the February Clarity Challenge; the theme is Flower Power.

My starting point was to use the large Gelli plate and Dylusions paint in After Midnight and London Blue to create the basic background.  A Speedball brayer spread the paint over the gelli plate and two prints covered the whole of the background in an ombre effect.

I wanted to add some texture to the background, so added some Fresh Lime Dylusions paint over the whole of the gelli plate, laid the large Dotty Wave stencil by Claritystamp over the top, pulled a print onto some deli paper, removed the stencil and added the remaining print to the background, leaving the gelli plate almost clean.

In order to cover up some of the lines left by using the gelli plate twice on the background, I decided to add some watered down white gesso in patches, using a mixture of dry brushing and spatters (which were larger than I originally intended them to be).
I knew that I wanted to use a stamped or stencilled heart in place of the word in my quote and came across the Floral Heart stencil by Claritystamp in my stash.  I dragged Pebeo High Density Texture Paste through the stencil and set it aside for an hour to dry.

Once the modelling paste was dry; using the heat tool to help it along, I laid the (now clean) stencil back over the top and brushed Bubblegum Pink, Cherry Pie and Pomegranate Seed Dylusions paint over the texture paste using a Clarity stencil brush.  I worked from light to dark, blending as I went between the colours.

As the prompt was 'Listen', I used my favourite alphabet stamps, the Word Chain Alphabet set by Claritystamp to spell out the word; stamped it using a Versamark ink pad and heat embossed the letters using Cosmic Shimmer detail white embossing powder.  The rest of the quote came from the Tim Holtz idea-ology Small Talk sticker pad leaving out the words Listen and heart.
I felt that the bottom corners of the page were still a little bare; therefore brushed a mixture of After Midnight and Fresh Lime paint through sections of the Flower Power stencil by Claritystamp to add interest.  Finally, having sealed the quote stickers with Mod-Podge and having dried everything, I went round the stickers with some Big Brush markers in Permanent Carmine and Phthalo Blue, blending them out with my fingers, as well as adding some white uni-ball highlights to the heart.  My hands may be messy, but once again, I had a ball creating this page.
