Tree Aperture Resist - One Day at a Time

I used a background from a favourite online workshop and one of the new Tree Aperture stamps to create a resist for this mini make.
Choose one of the small backgrounds made in Barb’s alcohol ink on a gel plate workshop (I used Valencia, Turquoise, Honeycomb and Raspberry inks).
Add the small Tree Aperture stamp from the One Day at a Time set in Versamark ink and heat emboss with detail clear powder.
Die cut the topper using the 2” nested square die and a mat from black card using the corresponding picot die.
Mask round the stamped image with low tack tape and add Black Soot Distress ink to the tree with a spot on sponge. Clean off the excess and remove the masking.
Mat up the topper and add it to the front of a 4" x 4" white card blank.
To finish, add the sentiment in Jet Black Archival ink.

Love this, but am a little confused. If you heat emboss with clear powder the tree image and then put black soot over it and wipe off, wouldn't the tree stay the colours of the background? I'm not sure how your tree is black. Thanks
