Crazy Dog Birthday

This card was made for a crafty friend's birthday yesterday.  As she has just adopted a new dog, this seemed the perfect opportunity to break out the Crazy Dog stamps and dies by Tim Holtz.

I'm more of a cat person than a dog person, but I couldn't resist these stamps and dies.  The dogs have so much character.  I chose this image, as my friend's dog is a small breed. I stamped it once onto Sheena's stamping card using black Archival ink; also the gift and three lots of the balloon from the Crazy Things stamp set.  The balloons were coloured using distress markers (Festive Berries, Wilted Violet and Mermaid Lagoon) scribbled onto a glass mat and then picked up using a water brush.  Once dry, I scribbled some of the matching distress crayon onto the shaded areas and immediately blended it out with my finger, before it had time to dry out.  This provided more depth to the coloured images.  The dog was coloured in the same way using Black Soot, Brushed Corduroy and Walnut Stain and the gift with Picked Raspberry and Chipped Sapphire.  All the images were then die cut with the matching dies.
I wanted a clean and simple look to the card with the focus on the coloured images, so I stamped the stitched border from the Rugged Edge set by Indigoblu across the front of a pre made 15cm x 15cm white card, using Onyx Black Versafine ink. This provided the 'floor' for the dog to stand on.  Originally I had stamped and die cut the strings to the balloons, but eventually I just drew them on with an extra fine Pitt artist pen after everything was glued in place.  A peel off coloured with an opaque black pen finished the card.  Happy birthday!
