I am so proud of my sister, who recently passed, with flying colours, her last exam (a three hour diagnostic practical) to qualify as a GP. I made this card to congratulate her and decided after a bit of thought and playing with different layouts and die cuts, to keep things clean and simple.
I started by die cutting and embossing all the elements from both the Hospital and Doctor sets of Marianne Creatables from heavy white card stock. I bought these a while back with this very use in mind!
I wanted to add colour using ProMarker pens as I felt this would give me control over where I added colour as well as a wide palette. I wasn't sure exactly which elements that I would use (apart from the stethoscope).
My base card is a ready made 15cm x 15cm white blank. I tried out several layouts before deciding on the die cut elements to include. Once I'd decided to keep the elements to a minimum, I felt that something was lacking, even before adding the congratulations sentiment. I recently invested in some of the weird science stamps by Indigoblu and really liked the wave border on the Light and Sound Borders; it seemed to me a little reminiscent of a heart trace (even if a fatal one!). I decided therefore to stamp it in red (Vermilion Archival ink) across the width of the card as a backdrop to the die cut elements. The congratulations sentiment came from a free set of stamps which came with a magazine.
I did try the look of some additional elements, but in the end liked the simplicity of the stethoscope and doctor's bag on their own.
