I tend to procrastinate a great deal. Once I get started with a project I usually end up with something that I like; it's the getting started that sometimes takes some time. My word for 2019 is therefore 'begin'. The January prompt for Nina Ribena's Art Journal Prompts and More is words and week 1 is Mood Board. This is my page.
If you look at the mood board Nina shared with us, you will see where I have taken my ideas from. I worked on a piece of mixed media card (18.5cm x 19.5cm).
Using Salty Ocean and Hickory Smoke Distress Oxides, I divided my page in half. Inspired by the flower image, I laid one of the Petite Mandala Stencils (set 2) by Claritystamp over the page in several places on the left, spritzed with water and dabbed off some of the Distress Oxide. On the right, I added a little of the Salty Ocean over the Hickory Smoke Oxide through the same mandala stencil.
Using the top left hand picture as inspiration, I added the word 'begin' multiple times in Watering Can and Manganese Blue Archival ink. The alphabet used is the Letterbox set from Claritystamp.
I really like the flower picture on the bottom left photo, so decided to take that a little more literally. I stamped the Gerbera from the Gerbera and Butterfly set (Claritystamp) onto a spare piece of card in Vibrant Fuchsia Archival ink.
It was coloured in using a mixture of watercolour pencils and Spectrum Aqua pens.
To add further intensity, I used the Spectrum Noir pencils over the top of the water colour.
Before I added the Gerbera to my page it was fussy cut and a little pearl pink paint added over the top in some areas.
I used letters from the Alphas/Swirls Grungeboard set from Tim Holtz to make up the word 'Begin'. I gave each letter a coat of Viva Decor Rusty paint to allude to the rusty padlock in the top right picture.
I then added a little gilding wax in Graceful Pink.
Followed by dabbing on some permanent red violet light Amsterdam acrylic paint from Royal Talens.
The letters were then added to the page.
In a further reference to the top left mood board picture, I added 2019 using some Salvage stickers from the Destinations set by Tim Holtz.
To finish, I added the words 'it's the best way to get something done' to the page. Most of them came from the Chit Chat sticker book, but I printed a couple using my Dymo Letratag. These were coloured pink to tie in with the rest of the page.
I haven't worked with a mood board before, but I enjoyed using this one. I will be looking forward to the first week of each month over on Nina Ribena's Art Journal Prompts and More as they will always involve a new mood board.
