Having played around with Yupo yesterday, I used the piece that I finished as a focal point on a card. As the alcohol inks that I used were bright, I wanted a pop of colour in the matting and layering, but also some black to match the stamped elements. As you can see, I had lots of fun trying different lay outs and several colour elements.
I knew that I wanted to use black for some of the matting and layering and found two card colours which matched two of the alcohol inks; dark teal to make a base card (A4 scored and folded in half to create an A5 portrait card blank) and bright citrus green for matting and layering with the black. I also quickly decided on a 'distress' die to cut into the backing piece to allow another colour to show through. I had a look at my Tim Holtz mixed media dies, but as the Yupo piece is A6 in size and I didn't want to trim it down, I went with the narrowest of the Addlington Distress dies by Memory Box.
I tried out various permutations and took photos (thanks Leonie Pujol for that tip) so that I could compare ideas and lay outs.
I also decided to use the same die down the left hand side of the Yupo paper to allow the black paper that I was matting it onto to show through, as well as balancing out the stamping on the right hand side.
Finally, I decided to add a sentiment on the smaller of the two tags from the Pierced Flag die set by Sue Wilson and Creative Expressions. I seem to have used these a lot recently, but they are so useful as a background for a sentiment on a busy background. My only decision was whether to use a white peel off sentiment or a silver one coloured citrus green with a Sharpie pen. Out came the camera again...
In the end, I opted for the white peel off sentiment as I felt it tied in better with the white edges on the Yupo focal piece. I will definitely be playing with this synthetic paper again!
