Art Journal Page: Layering Stencils

The September prompt over on Nina Ribena's Art Journal Prompts and More is Art Journal Frenzy.  Week 2 was 'Anything Goes' so I decided to play with inks and layers.  I was originally going to use the owl trio from the Wise Owls set by Claritystamp on the page, but having found the perfect verse about an owl in my stash, I decided the individual fellow was more appropriate.
I placed the large moon mask from Claritystamp onto a piece of 18.5cm x 19.5cm mixed media card and stamped the owl in Acorn Archival ink.
Having found the Pattern Leaves stencil from TCW in my stash and having masked off the owl image,  I added oak leaves all around the page using the open leaf part of the stencil.   I alternated between Peeled Paint and Crushed Olive Distress Oxides.
There are two overlay patterns on the same stencil.  I used the dotted pattern to add Forest Moss over the Crushed Olive.
Fern Green Archival ink and the second pattern added interest to the Peeled Paint leaves.
I outlined the leaves using a Distress marker in Faded Jeans, then used a foam blending tool to add the matching Distress ink over the centre of the page.  The same colour picked up with a water brush off my glass mat was used to finish colouring the sky.  As some of the colour seeped under the moon mask, I added some wisps of colour across the image once the mask had been removed.
The verse by Crafty Roo Designs was stamped across the moon in Acorn Archival ink using the TH stamp platform.
Finally, the owl was coloured with WHSmith water colour pencils, then a water brush used to blend the colours together.
I love this owl stamp and have used him frequently.  One of these days I will get round to using the trio as well!
