Opportunity: An Art Journal Page

This page was completed in response to the March prompts over on Mission Inspiration.  As the April prompts are published today, I just managed to finish it in time!  The suggested colours for this page were Terracotta, Cream and Navy Blue.
Step 1: Cover your page with tissue or napkins.  For this step, I used a piece of the Postale tissue wrap by Tim Holtz and covered the entire piece of mixed media card (28.4cm x 19.4cm).
Step 1
Step 2: Add gesso/paint with a baby wipe.  I added two layers of terracotta Reeves acrylic paint, drying each layer after application.
Step 2
Step 3: Make marks over your page.  For this, I painted sand acrylic paint (Reeves) over a piece of bubble wrap and used it to add a pattern around the edges.  This was the closest colour that I could get to cream.
Step 3
Step 4: Add texture with paste or embossing powder.  I dragged Pebeo high density modelling paste through the Cargo stencil by Tim Holtz (THS001).  I left the paste uncoloured as it is an off white/cream colour.
Step 4
Step 5:  Add a focal image or 2 or 3.  As I had already decided on my quote, I stamped both doors from the Vintage Door set (Heartfelt Creations) onto scraps of card (Majestic Blue Versafine ink / Clear EP).  They were coloured with the Indigo Ecoline pen applied with a water brush and the panels were coloured in Midnight  Blue Pixie Powder mixed with water to create a mica paint.  Once fussy cut, they were added to the page and terracotta and caput mortuum Big Brush markers used to blend around them.
Step 5
Step 6:  Add metallic/ shimmer splatters or drips.  The same Pixie Powder was watered down and spattered over the page.  The door panels were given another coat of sparkle too.
Step 6
Step 7: Add quote, phrase or title.  My quote, " If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door!" was added at this point.  Opportunity was one of the five choices of prompt word for the page (the others being Wander, Attitude, Progress and Grid).  The prompt was stamped in Versamark ink and heat embossed with Stampendous Golden Ocean EP using my favourite Claritystamp Word Chain Alphabet.  The rest of the quote was printed using the Dymo Letratag.  The quote was edged with a Big Brush marker.

Step 7
Step 8: Create a contrasting border or frame.  I decided to add a border using the same embossing powder as used for the main prompt word.  As the doors sit further over to the right, the border was only added down the left hand side to balance things up.  A clear embossing pen was used to draw in the border before heat embossing.
