Art Journal Page: My Word for 2018

Having successfully completed every prompt for 2017, I decided to continue the journey with Nina Ribena's Art Journal Prompts and More in 2018.  The name of the group has changed to allow additional types of project, but I have decided to continue creating an art journal page each week.  The monthly prompt for January is 'Words' and I chose the word 'dare'.  Last year's word for me was 'Create' which I certainly have done, but this year I want to be a little more adventurous and daring in my work and try new techniques as well as grasping creative opportunities which come my way.
I am keeping the same format of page as last year (18.5cm x 19.5cm mixed media card put into an 8" x 8" spiral bound journal).  I chose 6 colours of Dylusions paint and started with a layer of Vibrant Turquoise brushed all over the page.
Some Calypso Teal added with a palette knife and brayered roughly over the top.
The same two colours added with a sponge to create texture.
Polished Jade dabbed all over using a natural sponge.
A long thin detail paint brush was used to add lines of  London Blue.
Then lines of Periwinkle Blue were added.
Finally, Midnight Blue finished the layering.
The letters for my word 'dare' are taken from the Tim Holtz idea-ology swirls/alphas set.  They were given several coats of Tangerine Dream as a complete contrast to the background.
Pebeo Renaissance Gold Gilding wax brought out the texture of the swirls.
Before adding the word to the page, I added an exclamation mark from the Digits grungeboard set.  As this was plain, I embossed it using a Cuttlebug embossing folder before painting and gilding it in the same manner as before.
Before adding a couple of phrases from the Small Talk sticker book
(Tim Holtz) which reinforce my intentions for 2018, I added some of the same gilding wax all round the edges of the page.
